Back-To-School Car Maintenance Checklist

Preparing for Back-To-School season is stressful for students and parents alike. We are enrolling for classes, buying supplies and books, and preparing ourselves for upcoming studies. If you are sending a child back to school, whether they are local or out of state, checking their car before they go is extremely important. Our kids are focused on school, and that’s how it should be, but often times this means they forget to do even the most basic maintenance on their/your vehicle. Don’t let them leave without having a proper check of the cars most vital systems and basic maintenance, it could save you time and money down the road.

Consider this Checklist to Prepare Your Student’s Car for the Months Ahead

Back-To-School Car Checklist

  • Check all Fluids: This includes the Oil, coolant, transmission, brake, and power steering fluid
  • Check the Battery: Does the cars battery hold a full charge? You won’t want your student being late to class because their car won’t start due to a dead battery. If your battery is more than three years old replace it.
  • Tire Pressure: Check those tires for uneven wear, nails, and proper inflation. Blow outs can be dangerous and can cause accidents, having proper air pressure in your tires and checking for tire damage is very important.
  • Check Lights: Having a break-light out isn’t something your student may notice for quite some time, and this is cause to be pulled over and can potentially lead to an accident.
  • Know Your Resources: Have a list of emergency roadside assistance, towing services, insurance agencies, and local mechanics prepared and kept somewhere in the vehicle. If your student breaks down or has car trouble, these go-to phone numbers will take the guess work out of their problem.
